Dunmore Bay Ross Formation Deepwater Turbidite Sheet Sands and Condensed Sections

This page represents a gallery of photographs that illustrate the geology of the Ross Formation where it outcrops along the northern shore shore of the Shannon Estuary and the southern shore of Loop Head. Click on highlighted Deepwater Gallery for access to a completete index to this gallery or access items from this gallery using the pull down menu on the header bar above.

The photographs in this gallery were taken by Christopher Kendall, and Peter Haughton. We hope you enjoy the results of our collaboration.

The gallery illustrates the character of the deepwater sediments of the Ross Formation. The base of the Ross Formation section at the Dunmore Bay exhibits finer grained deepwater fan lobes with very sparse shallow channeling and sand and shale filled megaflute scars. Condensed sections with goniates occur in these rocks too.
