Gull Island Formation Deepwater Margin Slumps and Condensed Sequences

This page represents a gallery of photographs that illustrate the geology of the Gull Island Formation deepwater downslope from the basin margin. Here extensive slumps occur and are punctuated by condensed sections with abundant goiatites in outcrops along the Atlantic shore at Gull Island, just north of the Shannon Estuary and Fisherman's Point. Click on highlighted Deepwater Gallery for access to a completete index to this gallery or access items from this gallery using the pull down menu on the header bar above.

The photographs in this gallery were taken by Christopher Kendall, and Peter Haughton.

The gallery illustrates the character of the slope margin deepwater sediments of the Gull Island Formation. These probably accumulated close to the base of the basin margin slope where slumping occured and has been modified by some with local channeling. Above the slumped sediments are the deltaics of the Tullig Formation.
